MORELLA’S ROUTE 30 SHOP ‘N SAVE TO CLOSE

Latrobe – April 30, 2012 - Morella Foods, LLC, announced today that it plans to close its SHOP ‘N SAVE grocery store located in the Latrobe 30 Shoppes in Unity Township in June of this year.  Morella Foods, owned by husband and wife team Craig and Lisa Morella, has operated the Latrobe 30 SHOP ‘N SAVE since February of 2007.

According to Craig Morella, Morella Foods was notified on April 18, 2012 that the landlord, ABC Properties, is terminating the grocer’s lease to accommodate another tenant.

“These types of announcements are always difficult,” said Craig Morella. “This is extremely frustrating knowing that 75 employees are going to be displaced considering the number of vacancies in the center. I wish the landlord would have been able to place the incoming tenant somewhere else in the complex.”

Since purchasing the grocery store in February of 2007, Morella Foods has raised over $29,000 for the American Cancer Society, donated over 33,000 labels for education to help local elementary schools and actively supported the Westmoreland County Food Bank and the local Animal Shelter.

Also departing the center will be the Hometown Fan Club sports merchandise store, which opened in November of 2009 and is also owned and operated by Craig and Lisa Morella. “The sports store has been very successful and we will be reopening in a new location,” said Lisa Morella. “We are in the process of looking at several locations right now, and plan to be back up running in the Latrobe area as soon as possible.”
